A gas cannister, in which the pressure is initially 1.50 atm at 30°C, is refrigerated until the internal pressure is 1.31 atm.  What will be the new temperature, in °C, inside the cannister?

From gas law we can write  P1V1/T1 = P2V2/T2

since volume of gas will remain constant that is V1 =V2

hence it becomes P1/T1 = P2/T2

or we can write , T2 =  P2 T1/P1

P1 = 1.5 atm p2 = 1.31 atm

T1 = 30°C = 303 K

hence T2 = 1.31 * 303 / 1.5 = 264.62 K

or T2 = -8.38 °C   (answer)
