In the combustion of octane (C8H18) fuel, the rate of production of steam was measured to be 7.4 moles/minutes.

The balanced equation for reaction of complete combustion of octane is

2C8H18 + 25O2 → 16CO2 + 18H2O

For 7.4 mol/min of water steam to be produced it is necessary to consume 7.4×25/18 = 10.3 mol of O2 per minute or, equivalently, 10.3 mol * 32.00 g/mol = 330 g of O2 per minute.
