WATER
Every living being needs water. The life of
plants, animals, and, of course, humans are
dependent on the presence of a certain
availability of water, which must be ensured
continuously so that the many vital functions
can take place regularly. So much so that in its
absence, death occurs within a few days.
• It is a transport vehicle for all nutrients and waste: it delivers to each cell the ingredients it
requires and carries away the end or elimination products of its life-support reactions.
• It is an almost universal solvent: it dissolves amino acids, glucose, minerals, and many other
substances. . In addition, fatty substances can travel freely in the blood and lymph systems
because they are uniquely packaged within water-soluble proteins.
• Waste elimination: Small molecules dissolve in the blood and must be removed to avoid
forming toxic concentrations within the body. The kidneys act as filters for these waste
products and excrete them, mixed with water, through urine.
• It maintains body temperature. To get rid of excess heat, the body secretes sweat. Therefore,
heat energy is dissipated, cooling the skin as well as the underlying blood.
• It lubricates, cushions joints, and cushions vital tissues. This can be seen in the spinal cord or
the eye as the liquid acts as a shock absorber to maintain optimal pressure on the retina and
lens or even in the fetus via the amniotic fluid sac. Water also acts as a lubricant for the
respiratory and digestive tracts, and for all tissues that are moistened with mucus
• Benefits the digestive process. Because: It creates saliva, and removes waste from the body it is
essential for sweating, urine, and regular bowel movements. It also prevents constipation
because when we are dehydrated, the intestine cannot dilute the feces with water and has to
take it directly from the food we consume. This results in slow digestion, i.e. dry, hard stools
that transit with difficulty. Finally, it speeds up the transit time because it helps t...
