This article is co-authored by four psychiatry professionals across London, the United
Kingdom, and Canada. It is a report of a case study done on a patient under the care of two of the
authors. The forty-two-year-old male patient is diagnosed with Othello's Syndrome, which is
based off William Shakespeare's complex character from the play Othello. Othello's Syndrome
has symptoms of enraged jealousy and unfounded accusations of infidelity towards a spouse;
usually always a male accusing his female spouse of outrageous claims, the accused often suffer
verbal and physical abuse. In this reported case of Othello's Syndrome, the patient was treated
with an antidepressant medication, and the delusions he was suffering from subsided. If the
character, Othello from William Shakespeare's play could have had access to such medication
and treatment, the outcome of murder-suicide would have been less likely.

Possible Thesis: Even though Gulliver in Swift's Gulliver's
Travels Part IV reports of the species on the island in a way
that sociologists appreciate, he is thus aiding in the discovery
and corruption of the very island he loves so much.

Prompt #2. I will use Tolstoy's The Death of Ivan Ilyich for the
epiphany or revelation. Ivan's realization is that he is dying or
going to die very soon. His epiphany is that he has not lived
his life as he should have. Usually an epiphany in literature
signals some change in the character and most often that
change is for a positive improvement. Ivan's epiphany is
shocking because instead of changing for the positive and
improving his life in his final days, he dies angry and isolated.

Possible Thesis: Ivan Ilyich in Tolstoy's The Death of Ivan
Ilyich experiences an epiphany when he realizes that death is
looming. Instead of using this epiphany to better his life, Ivan
experiences regret and hate at his former life choices. Ivan
was unable to change for the positive even in the end of his
life.
