Evidence-based Practice in Healthcare System
Overview of Healthcare System Practice Guidelines
Every healthcare system has some healthcare practice guidelines which are statements
that are made to help the health practitioners within the organization to come up with appropriate
practices within their set during specific clinical situations. One of the major practice guidelines
within the healthcare institute that I work includes Professional Communication and Team
Collaboration. Team collaboration is one of the key pillars towards achieving success in any
team. Team collaboration in health care refers to the coming of together of nurses and other
healthcare staff to be able to work towards achieving quality health care outcomes through
fruitful partnerships. Collaborative health practice cannot be exercised effectively without an
efficient communication strategy within the health institute. Interprofessional communication has
to take place within the healthcare facility, and it takes place when the healthcare providers
communicate amongst each other, families and amongst people. When nurses and other
healthcare professionals collaborate and communicate effectively the quality of healthcare
outcome is deemed to improve.
The idea of team collaboration and communications is essential towards the transfer of
skills and experience amongst health practitioners as they all work together as a team towards
giving good care services. Nurses tend to have wide knowledge about the patients, and in the
event, there is sharing of this knowledge with the other healthcare providers, the providers stand
at a better position to come up with a proper health plan that meets the requirements of a
particular patient. The practice of healthcare collaboration is based on five major five concepts.
These concepts include power, sharing, process, and interdependency. The concept of sharing
entails a collective practice that aims at achieving a common goal. The concept of partnership

touches on the honest communication, respect, mutual trust and working together towards
attaining a shared goal between health professionals more the between physicians and nurses.
Though respect, trust and working as one, collaboration within the healthcare organization can
be important towards achieving health care goals. Collaborations not only improve the quality of
care but also improve the safety, plan of care as well as the discharge plan of the patient. For
effective professional communication and team collaboration to take place, the health
professionals need to consider the following factors. Ensuring self-awareness, careful handling
of conflicts, creation of an ample environment for inf0amtion sharing, getting into the right team,
being a leader and maintaining effective communication skills
