Final Answer

There is an old saying that "those that don't know history, are bound to repeat it." This has held it's weight, and will continue for all of history. An example that most people are familiar with is invading the nation of Russia in the winter time. Starting with the Mongols in the 13th century, the Swedish in the 18th century, the French in the 19th, and the Nazis in the 20th, no country has been able to successfully take land, and hold it, from the Russians for an extended period of time. If the the more modern nations look upon the past, they would have noticed where the failures occurred, and more importantly, noticed how to avoid those failures. We can also look at the past to view the future. We can predict how societies in the past utilized policies, and model after those societies.
