H.G. Wells once said “Statistical thinking will one day be as necessary for efficient citizenship as the ability to read and write!” Take a position on whether you agree or disagree with this statement, and provide a rationale for your response.
Unlike earlier centuries, we have seen information explosion and information overload in the present century. There is tremendous improvement in the affordability of acquiring hardware and software. Just to quote the price in Electronics Goods, in 1991 the price of a computer was of the order $1200 having a hard disk of size 80 megabytes.Today even a terabyte had disk is available for $45. The power and capacity have become phenomenal. So also is the proliferation of software. Hence humanware has to scale up to cope with the ever expanding hardware and software. Terms like Big Data and BusinessAnalytics have become quite common nowadays. These force every citizen to shape the mind set. For all these, statistical thinking is necessary to make sense.
