The historical approach to prevention and control of Ebola was as follows. To begin with,
little information was known about the Ebola virus. Therefore, past outbreaks were impeded
while still in rural areas where the outbreaks usually started. During this time, the population
density was quite low with stronger community ties, while measures to prevent Ebola
transmission were much easier (Aurelie et al., 2018). This was based on a three-tier strategy of
prevention and control. First, the Ebola patients were quickly identified in the rural areas and
then isolated with protective gear issued to the health workers to prevent disease transmission.
Next, the contacts linked to the patient were closely observed, with their temperature
taken two times a day for approximately twenty-one days. Those with high fevers were then
quarantined until a diagnosis could be made, and those found with Ebola were hospitalized.
Thirdly, in the Ebola-prone areas, the communities were offered education on the virus to create
awareness and ensure individuals protected themsel...
