CRASH MOVIE
Since slavery in America tension has been present between the Caucasians and the Africa
Americans. Major themes that can be observed in the lives of characters in the crash movie
(2004) are culture and race. Cameron, a prestigious color vision director considered as a one
character in particular, displays the friction between two cultures. Additionally, we see him being
a very learned individual in Los Angeles. He gets to have to have no ties with the African
American yet he is one of them. He attends awards shows, his acquaintances are prominently
white and he also has a light skinned wife. Nevertheless, due to his upbringings and place in the
society, He and his wife experience helplessness and powerfulness emotions that he barely had
an idea he could encounter when they get to be pulled away by racist cops
In the First scene, two white cops receive a call about a stolen car when Cameron is being
introduced. Officer Ryan, the openly racist cop, pulls over Christines’ Lincoln Navigator
although it is definite that their navigator is not the stolen car and Cameron. Officer Ryan though
he saw the couple indulge in sexual activities while driving. Christine laughs loudly humorously
to the whole incident when the cop comes and asks for the license and the registration the
vehicle. However Cameron tends to act confused after the cop commands him to step out even
though he tends to obey him. Cameron declared he lives a block away whereby he does

2
obviously want no trouble nor drunk (He is even noted as a Buddhist in the movie). Officer Ryan
commands them to put their hands on the car to check if there are in custody of any weapon after
Cameron’s wife comes out of the vehicle protesting the absurdity of the stop. Cameron is stands
by and watches forcefully hoe the cop humiliates Christine by feeling her between her thighs.
However Cameron does not protest but shockingly glances to what is being done to his wife. He
gets to be in a tough situation because he together with his wife would be arrested and his
reputation ruined if he dares to object. When the officer asks Cameron what he should do about
the incident that previously occurred in the car, Cameron humbly apologizes and tells the officer
that he could highly appreciate if he could let them go with a warning.
In the second scene we come across office Tommy Hansen who is a young white Los Angeles
officer and works with Officer John Ryan who is much older. From the beginning of the scene
Tommy is portrayed as a shy, fair and an inexperienced policeman. Tommy’s desire was to have
his partner changed after seeing his fellow officer, John Ryan, pull over Cameron Thayer and his
wife Christine and sexually molest her. In addition, he feels guilty and gets to despise his
colleague and argues that he cannot continue working with such a racist partner. This makes the
viewer’s sympathize with Tommy and characterize him on the positive side. Despite Tommy’s
request, their supervisor, Dixon Lieutenant does not approve the fact and finally approves the
situation take him wherever they were going he claims his uncontrollable flatulence necessity to
drive the vehicle without anyone. Tommy had nothing else to do but instead agree and
apparently the next day he gets to be assigned to patrol alone with the car.
The very same day, during his patrol he accompanied an officer while coming after Cameron
Thayer who had been car jacked but fought off his carjackers and drove away with one of the car
jackers in the vehicle. Cameron confronts the officers after the dead end and he annoyed of the

LAPD. However Tommy since his fair settles down the dispute and convince Cameron to calm
and avoid quarrel which could highly lead to him kicking the bucket. Thereafter Cameron is
released with a harsh warning after Tommy sides Cameron by saying he is his close friend and
convinces the other police officers to let Cameron to go home. This scene shows that Tommy
was so remorseful and very fair . Moreover he portrays good emotions and is defined as a real
hero unlike other heroes. Peter Waters case is much similar to Tommy case showing a real face
to the viewers. When the film ends we see Tommy driving and tumbling a ride to Waters, a
carjacker who is black only to recognize he was not safe after having an argument with Peter.
Tommy then gets annoyed after assuming that Peter was laughing at him and immediately
chased him out of his car. Instead Peter tries to reach Tommy’s pocket and he instantly shot him
to death assuming wrongly that Peter was searching for a gun. In this case Tommy is viewed as a
cruel, lost and frightened human. He then disposes the body to cover up his cruel behavior and
later sets his car on fire trying to hide the evidence. From this scene we all understand that
neither Tommy nor the rest of the officers have a positive character. Once more we get to
understand people characters lies in the middle in that they are not positive neither negative.
Similarly we get to see Officer Ryan showing his positive emotions when he tries to help
his father who was suffering from prostate cancer and whose treatment is ineffective. This
portrays him as a caring and supporting being but later...
