Based on your reading, if Lincoln had lived, do you think Reconstruction might have proceeded differently?  Why or why not?

Apr 8th, 2015
The extended Reconstruction period would not have taken place, but enormous amounts of money for reconstruction would have been transferred to the south because Lincoln would have executed his plan to compensate slaveholders for the freedom of their erstwhile work force, and he would have done this through issuing millions of dollars' worth of United States Notes backed not by gold but by faith in the American economy - which was another little scheme on his agenda at the time he died, and Robert Lincoln would very likely have been President or an influential cabinet member sometime late in the century
