1/2log(x + 2)^2 + 1/3(log x^6 - log(x^2 - 2x - 8)^3

= log(x + 2)^2*1/2 + log x^6*1/3 - log{ (x - 4)(x + 2) }^3 ,  using m log n = log n^m , factor last term

= log [ { (x + 2)*x^2} / (x - 4)^3 (x + 2)^3} ]  ,  using  log m + log n = log mn & log m - log n = log m/n

= log [x^2 /(x - 4)^3 (x + 2)^2
