ORIGINAL QUESTION Political Parties From the Federalist and Anti-Federalist parties of post-Revolutionary America, to the Republican and Democratic parties of today, the major political parties of the United States have evolved, over time. In light of your academic understanding of modern liberal and conservative ideologies, please compare and contrast the major political parties of today in terms of voting patterns and issue positions. STUDENT 1 RESPONSE Hello’ Prof and Classmates The modern day Republican and Democratic Party are different than they were a hundred years ago and have changed a lot of their key principles, The conservatives who are mostly known as being a member of the Republican party hold more of the traditional values when it comes to religion and politics on the other hand the liberals have been mostly known for being member of the Democratic party and their ideology is in constant change and spending which I guess the way they see it as not being that big of a deal because their spending our money which would be tax money to found programs like global warming, over the course of history there have been more Republican presidents with the current number being eighteen and the Democratic Party only at fifteen it shows that Americans have been more comfortable electing Republicans because of their conservative views that have away of winning over the majority of the electoral vote in almost every close election. STUDENT 2 RESPONSE The modern political party system in the U.S. is a two-party system dominated by the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. These two parties have won every United States presidential election since 1852 and have controlled the United States Congress to some extent since at least 1856. The Democratic Party is one of two major political parties in the U.S. It is the oldest political party in the world. Since 1854, it has fought head-to-head with the Republican Party. I have always felt that the Democratic Party was the helper for the less fortunate of people in the US. To think and be fair for the individuals that had few and or less than others. Even when it came to the idea of help people earn and establish a better living for themselves. On the economic ideas of Minimum wages and progressive taxation, i.e., higher tax rates for higher income brackets. Born out of anti-federalist ideals but evolved over time to favor more government regulation. This is how the democratic felt on this particular issue. Then there was that of the stance on taxes, their response to the issue was that of a Progressive (high income earners should be taxed at a higher rate) manner. Generally not opposed to raising taxes to fund governmental needs. Thru all their trails, and struggles for their ideas on embitterment of the US, the Democratic Party illustrated their opinion on another very sensitive issue. That of the stance of abortion they felt should not be made illegal; support Roe v. Wade (some Democrats disagree). That was not other only issue in regards to rights and health care where the looks on the people in a positive light. Supporting universal healthcare; strong support of government involvement in healthcare, including Medicare and Medicaid, just generally support Obamacare. This giving the people a better opportunity at life. These democratic voting pattern very strong in large and populated states such as California, Massachusetts, and New York. We cannot leave out these Elephants, The Republican Party the other of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States of America. Since the 1880s it has been nicknamed (by the media) the "Grand Old Party" or GOP, although it is younger than the Democratic Party Now these guys have always been the bullying of politics to me. Yet, in my most recent research I have felt that they too have a desire to help the people, not just the rich and themselves. On some particular economics ideas the Republicans believe taxes shouldn't be increased for anyone (including the wealthy) and that wages should be set by the free market. They have very direct opinion in politics, even when it comes to the rights or issues for women. That is the issue of Abortion and that it should not be legal; oppose Roe v. Wade (some Republicans disagree) and another direct issues for the people is taxes. The Republicans tend to favor a "flat tax" (same tax rate regardless of income) and are especially opposed to raising taxes. For the financial impacts this party figures that our health is something for us to manage not the government, in believing that private companies can provide healthcare services more efficiently than government-run programs. By opposing Obamacare provisions like requirement for individuals to buy health insurance or pay a fine, required coverage of contraceptives. Having such strong holds and deep rooted traditions of the Republicans are in states like Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and this shows in the voting patterns. Now you must say to yourself if both parties are for the people and the greater improvement for the United States then, why we have been so divided from the beginning?
