After completing the unit and reviewing the Stearns article, answer the following in your own words: “Why I believe it is important to study history.”
First, examples from this unit should be utilized as part of your answer and topics must include, but are not limited to the following items:
1. Describing the migration of Native American tribes. 2. The influence trade, agriculture, and tools they had on movements and settlements. 3. How colonial actions and colonization impacted those among whom the colonists settled.
Second, when studying the movements of Native American peoples and European exploration during the 15th and 16th centuries, what does history tell us about the motivations, practices, and outcomes from the European quests of God, gold, and glory? Why do you believe it was important to study these motivating factors?

History denotes the study of the events that occurred during a period that already passed.
Studying history is crucial as it allows individuals understand the different factors that led to the
existence of certain rules and regulations and the enactment of different laws (Stearns, 1998). An
example being the effects that colonialism had in countries in Africa. Colonization was the main
cause of different land problems in African countries. The enactment of the land ordinances
affected the customary framework that was enacted to govern the land. As a result of this,
different African countries have enacted Land Acts and National Policies that aim at dealing with
the effects of colonization. Studying history allows individuals to understand the reasons for the
current laws.
