You're squeezing a springy rubber ball in your hand. If you push inward on it with a force of 1 N, it dents inward 2 mm. How far must you dent it before it pushes outward with a force of 4 N?

we know that , F = kx

where k = spring constant (which is constant for a particular spring )

1 N force dent = 2 mm therefore k = F/x = 1/2 N/mm , or k = 0.5 N/mm

Now F = 4 N hence

F = k x

4 = 0.5 * x

therefore x =4/0.5 = 8 mm (Answer)

Hence ball will 8 mm Dent inside
