Question description

This is the feedback the professor just sent back on this assignment.

please see my attached markup, edits, and embedded comments in your paper. I agree, my feedback does not seem to be helping you very much. You still have extra spacing between paragraphs that you must remove. Everything should be double spaced (and only double). Call me if you would like me to show you how to do this.

I want you to do the following:

Review this Walden webpage [http://academicguides.waldenu.edu/writingcenter/mu...] and use its resources to improve your academic writing.

Engage the writing center for help with your writing. You can do their editors review your paper and provide recommendations for improvement. I am hoping their feedback will be more helpful than mine has been. (-:

1 Limited English Proficiency Among English Language Learners Monica Knox Walden University 2 Limited Proficiency Among English Language Learners Background The process of primary education of English Language Learners (ELL), students face many challenges, but the main one under question is the problem of having to learn the English language while at the same time focusing on their core courses (Breen, 2014). English Language learners have to take their time to learn the English language because it is the language that is used in the teaching as well as the testing of the concepts that have been taught to gauge the level of knowledge of the students (Breen, 2014). In this paper, there will be an analysis of the problem statement coupled with evidence from literature as well as statements that have been substantiated by evidence from research articles. Finally, the main benefit when the solution of the problem is realized will be mentioned (Breen, 2014). Problem Statement The problem that compels this study is the poor grades across the academic content experienced by ELL students with limited English proficiency This is not cited evidence that the problem exists. You need to provide two to three sentences, with citations, that the problem exists. Without that evidence, you have no problem! It is evident and it has been shown through studies that there is a consistent disparity between the achievement levels of the Englishconversant students and the English Learners Public schools in America have enrolled different 3 students, and it was shown that between the years 2007 and 2008, there were approximately 5.3 million students who were designated ELL in the United States, accounting for 10.6 percent of the total students in the public schools This shows that the percentage of English learners is on the rise in schools (Hung, 2015). After your cogent presentation of evidence of the problem, you must present 2-3 cited sentences that present possible sources of the problem. With schools mainly focusing on higher standards and at the same time proficiency-testing, English learners find it difficult to excel academically. Failure to develop English proficiency among ELL students will perpetuate the poor grades and long-term English language challenges experienced by this group (Hung, 2015). Evidence from the Research Literature Society has a role in the education of ELL students. to get rid of the problem that English learners have. There is a need of the community playing a role in the empowerment of these students so that they attain the full acquisition of the English language. This WHAT is seen where not only the school structures have to participate in educating the English learners but also the formation of a cooperative learning environment for the students (Hung, 2015). Parental and family supports are needed in educating these students, not to mention effective tutoring and monitoring to ensure that they get to learn the language in all aspects (Hung, 2015). Studies have also shown the mastery of the common language that is used in learning can be made possible through society by ensuring that English is used even in the political as well as the national mainstream. This will make sure that the students have a favorable environment for 4 them to learn and not to feel segregated from the other English-proficient peers. The teachers should speak out so that necessary reforms can be made even at a national level in a bid to avert any form of inequality or racism with regards to the students’ language in classrooms and the society at large (Hung, 2015). You need a transition sentence here for your next topic/paragraph. Additionally, Adequate curriculum supports are also important for ELL student success. As such, there should be sufficient education being provided to the English learners to improve their status to be at per with their peers (Herrell, & Jordan, 2015). Most ELL students would benefit from additional English language courses geared toward improving their English language knowledge and giving them practice applying that knowledge in academics to improve heir grades (Herrell, & Jordan, 2015). Even while it has been suggested that many ELL students would benefit from additional language courses, however, providing additional courses is optional and difficult for most schools due to the already overcrowded curriculum requirements (Herrell, & Jordan, 2015). Evidence from Research Classroom communities can empower English learners during their primary school years. Studies have been done regarding the dynamics of the bilingual classroom and their impact on the lives of the English learners in school (Wright, 2015).It has been realized that English learners are in the position of being able to thrive in classrooms where they are not only on their own regarding the level of the English language proficiency. The English learners have been found to benefit from their peers who are English proficient through interactive sessions where there is sharing of ideas and effective communication amongst all the students (Wright, 2015). With this capability, the English learners will be able to tread slowly but steadily towards 5 their overall goal which is excelling in their main subjects with the improvement in their language proficiency. Additionally, there is the need of starting two-way bilingual programs which involve teachers and parents in the process of enhancing the English learners’ capabilities in the language through the implementation of adequate instructions. But it has been shown that most of the middle school's language teachers are not familiar with the theories and practices of bilingual education programs (Herrell, & Jordan, 2015). According to research, the middle school teachers are better placed to address the needs of the English learners who are not in a position to receive formal language (Herrell, & Jordan, 2015). This they can do by providing the students with a sufficient classroom environment that will be a pillar of support to students and at the same time foster their education (Herrell, & Jordan, 2015). Therefore, it is the role of all the stakeholders in the school curriculum to come together and be in a position of having common solutions to problems affecting the success of their students. Benefits of Addressing the Problem The primary population who would benefit from solving the problem are the ELL students. They will be in a position to develop language proficiency in two languages in that with the knowledge of their native language and the newly acquired knowledge in the English language; they can become better people as they can understand what they learn and also put it into practice in their lives. Additionally, the needs of the limited English proficient students will be met because they will be able to have better learning platform. Therefore, it is the role of the teachers to ensure that there is the collaboration with all the students so that they succeed irrespective of their language. 6 7 Reference Breen, M. (Ed.). (2014).
