After reading the “Arranging a Marriage in India,” it talk about how important arrange marriage is to them. How parents go years looking for the perfect match for their son and daughter. Many girls and boys don't disagree with their parents finding them there perfect match. Parents go around looking for a good family and investigate the family background making sure there making the right decision for their child. The family look into how smart the girl is or her height can matter even her skin color. Details you wouldn't think matter so much matter the most. Because they don't want a divorce to happen so they make sure they find someone who fixes just great in the family home since the women will be the one to move. Into her husband home with his parents. Which is that was my position I wouldn't like to move in with a mother in law, just because you would have to do everything right and will never feel like it's your home. Cultureinfluences ideas of gender especially when it comes to women. In the story “The Myth of the Latin Women” it mention how she was treated differently not just in her culture but in different cultures of the world. She experienced a lot of stereotyping in America growing up. This stereotype followed her all the way to England. Judith's family was originally from Puerto Rico. She grew up in the same Puerto Rican culture her parents grew up in but in a micro sense. She called this cultural schizophrenia, where at home she was taught the same values and upbringing of a Puerto Rican family, but outside of the home she was trying to fit in America's society. In her story you see how even just her looks gets her attention. Many times she would get a rendition from white males referring to her culture. A lot of these white males saw her as exotic and even easy because of the way she dressed. As she mentions in her story, you will never see a white male approaching a white female and disrespect her the same way. This is how in this story culture can influence ideas of gender.

“Arranging a Marriage in India,” is about the importance of arrange marriages.  Most boys and girls don’t mind their parents spending years in search of the perfect match. Since the girl will have to move in with her new family, everything must be investigated. Family background, education, looks, and what might appear to be minor details must be acceptable, in order to avoid a divorce.

“The Myth of Latin Women,” shows how culture and gender stereotypes lead to Judith being treated differently both in her country and in England. Judith suffers through “cultural schizophrenia”. At home she is Puerto Rican, but outside she tries to fit into American society. She is disrespected for her looks and dress, which are interpreted by white males to mean that she is “easy”.
