Introduction

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act which is commonly known as the
Affordable Care Act is a Federal Statute which was enacted by the 111th American Congress. The
Act was signed into law by retired president Barrack Obama hence its nickname, Obamacare. The
core purpose of Obamacare is to make health insurance more affordable to the American citizens.
In the past, most of the poor people in the country did not have access to health insurance. The
government thus decided to create a plan which is affordable to every citizen regardless of their
social status. The proposal was to make it easy for all people to have insurance cover. The

able to apply through the dedicated websites, through a phone call, access to the government
offices in person, and also use via email. The Act ensured that a lot of the American citizens had
access to health insurance cover despite their level of income (Oberlander, 2016). The employers
were also required to provide insurance coverage to their employees so that they could be included
in the plan.

industry, many people felt that it was exploiting some people. The rich had a feeling that the
government was forcing them to pay for the poor against their will. On the other hand, the
Trump administrations have developed new plans over the time to replace the Obamacare. This
move aims at changing all the policies which controlled the system. These disagreements have

that the system should be changed so that every person should be more responsible (Prep, 2012).
