If the angles area 45 degrees both from the source of beam to the wall, then

tan 45 deg = 8/x

x = 8 / tan 45 deg

x = 8 / 1

x = 8 ft

Now the base is

27 ft + 8 ft = 35 ft

then

tan 45 deg = (y - 8) / 27

1 = (y - 8) / 27

27 = y - 8

y = 27 + 8

y = 35 ft

So the the length of the beam is

L^2 = base^2 + height^2

L^2 = 35^2 + 35^2

L^2 = 2(35^2)

L = √2(35^2)

L = 35√2

L = 35 * 1.4

L = length of the beam = 49 ft approx
