The volume of 12 pails is the same as the volume of 9 bottles. The total volume of 3 bottles and 5 pails is 21.6. Wha is the volume of 1 pail?

Apr 10th, 2015

Let P = volume of one pail

Let B = volume of one bottle

We know that  12P = 9B,  so B = 12/9 P = 4/3P

and that  3B + 5P = 21.6

Now we substitute B for 4/3P

3(4/3P) + 5P = 21.6

4P + 5P = 21.6

9P = 21.6

P = 21.6/9 = 2.4
