ENGV 380 OVERVIEW This assignment requires you to work in groups (teams of 3 individuals) to provide a unit price cost estimate of a heavy/civil project as well as a proposed construction schedule. INSTRUCTIONS 1. Review the provided civil drawings and prepare a unit cost estimate for the civil site work. You can find these drawings on the Final Design Group Project Assignment page under Final Design Group Project Resource. This does not include the building. Once the estimate is prepared, a proposed construction schedule should be generated using the methods discussed in class. 2. Provide a detailed write up of the estimation and scheduling process. Documentation should be provided for the source of the unit cost information. 3. Paper should be 10 – 12 pages in length (not counting the title page, abstract, or reference page),written in APA style, double-spaced, 1” margins, 12-point font, with all referencescited within the body of the paper and properly listed at end (APA style). 4. Prepare a 10-minute oral presentation of your estimate and schedule as if you are presenting to the class. All group members must present. 5. Submit the paper and presentation slides no later than date. 6. The standard technical communications rubric will be utilized to assist in the preparation of your project and for evaluation purposes. You can view the Final Group Project Grading Rubric.

Paper outline
The paper has six main parts: the introduction, scheduling, estimation, conclusion,
references, and the appendices section.
The paper begins by introducing construction management and its key components. The
introduction also provides definitions of scheduling and cost estimations concerning construction
management.
Next, the paper details the principles of scheduling in construction. Scheduling is like a
road map for the project, outlining each step along the way. For this task to be successful,
comprehensive planning, scheduling, and control must be used to ensure that activities are
carried out correctly and that resources are used most efficiently. The themes of scheduling are
also discussed in the second section. The breakdown of the project activities is outlined in the
second section. This includes the various methods involved in undertaking the activities. The
common errors and mistakes, including factors that may cause project delivery delays, are
discussed in this section.
The third section entails the cost estimation. The importance of respect to a construction
project is outlined in this section. The crucial three purposes of carrying out a cost estimation are
also discussed in this section. The various cost estimation methods and types were also
discussed. Lastly, the section outlines the quantity measurement and discusses the steps
necessary to create an estimate.
The fourth section details the conclusion of the paper. This mainly sums up the main
advantages of scheduling and estimation in construction management. It sums up the whole
paper.

The fifth section is the references section which details the various scholarly sources
supporting the ideas in the paper. Most of the sources are peer-reviewed.
Lastly is the appendices section, which gives the project cost estimates.

Executive Summary
Constructions make the core of human habitats in the contemporary world. Construction
managers are tasked with ensuring that solid and reliable constructions are put up. A construction
manager (CM) is an expert who directs and coordinates all phases of a building project, from the
initial conceptualization to final inspection. Construction management engineers may work on a
wide variety of projects, including but not limited to the following: building construction,
drainage, and sewage system design, transportation infrastructure (roads, trains, airports, water
waste management, port design), and more. There are several processes and steps involved in
construction management. Among the functions that are important in managing constructions are
cost estimations and scheduling. This paper will seek to discuss scheduling and cost estimations
in construction.
