Description

Select four different types of home textiles. Collect some basic information for each textile such as fiber content, structure. How to select and maintain during daily use. -- You do have 4 types, please be more specific. Pillow cases and sheets could be two different types possible, because not all pillowcases are used while sleeping. For bedsheets, I would like to see you include the specific fiber content, yarn size, fabric count, fabric structure etc.. When people select, what principle to follow if for different purpose. How to maintain it during use? Blankets are big category, are you talking about blanket on the floor, on the sofa or the one we use during winter season. For each specific type, the selection criteria and maintain requirement are not the same, some using dry clean, others in regular laundry, which really depends on the fiber content. For towels, you could be specific to hand towels, or bath towels. Floor covering is a big category, be specific.

Interview four consumers to identify their needs and/or expectation for the selected product during selection, purchasing and use.  You could develop a survey with questions/answers to check their needs and/or expectations. --Please develop a questionnnaire covering specific questions to address the needs and expectation when consumers to select products (For example, one consumer would select curtain, is this a curtain used in the living room, bedroom or bathroom, the requirement could be varied depends on the location to use). When purchsing, what concern they may have? Price, quality (what specific quality we are talking about, durability, easy to care, colorfastness or what else). While maintaining the use, do they dry clean or regular laundry? How to dry it? Is that necessary to iron? Do they like to iron? Those questions have to be practical and customized for each individual product. You could have open questions as well. After your interview, I will expect to see the answer for each question from each consumer.

Summarize consumers’ questions/concerns and propose possible suggestions/solutions that are informed by the literature research.

After your interview, there must have some questions or concerns when consumers to select, maintain or use these products, as they do not have enough knowledge or skills. Some questions/concerns you could get answers from literature you researched, others you have to consult from professionals, which you will finish in later questions.

Home Textiles
Introduction
A textile is a material made by interlacing filament, yarn, or fiber into a piece of cloth or
fabric (Sarina 2022). Home textiles are the clothes and fabrics used to improve and boost the
internal environment, such as furnishings and internal spaces. They were earliest found in Egypt,
Turkey, and Israel (Tarihi, 2021). Turkey is known to have one of the best home textiles
industries globally, with a wide range of products and exemplary quality (Tarihi, 2021). They are
made by knitting, crocheting, pressing, weaving, and knotting fibers together. Home textiles are
not only known for providing aesthetic characteristics and features to the interiors, but it also
makes our lives easy and comfortable. They give a room color, character, texture, scale, and
other things that may not be provided by the room's architecture or home (Parmar & Malik,
2007). The color, character, and texture of the home textiles can impact the psychological
improvement of an individual. For instance, if the living room has textiles like a throw pillow or
blanket, one would feel at one relaxed, welcomed, and peaceful. Home textile is mainly used for
home furnishing from which the house's interior look can be maintained, but sometimes it is also
used to make the fabrics strong.
Home textiles control the style and mood of a room, and they can be used to tell or
predict a person's taste and sense of style. These fabrics control the room's liveliness, functions,
noise, and speech resonance (Parmar & Malik, 2007). They provide privacy to the desired
amount; for instance, curtains cover windows and doors to keep people from seeing activities in
the house. They also provide benefits like protecting the interior surface from fading and
deterioration from the effects of sunlight and dust particles, providing comfort while sleeping,
protecting the skin from different types of skin allergens, and lowering the cost of lighting it

echoes attraction then lighting fixtures (Omsakthi-A-Overseas, 2021). Home textiles should be
chosen carefully so that they may perform the functions expected. The main factors considered
are fiber content used, ease of cleaning and maintenance, cost, and overall appearance. Home
textile fabrics should have good resistance to snagging, piling, and seam slipping. They should
also have flame resistance, sponging speed, and stain repelling properties (Parmar & Malik,
2007).
Apart from the typical natural and synthetic fibers used in home textiles, other modern
fibers have been introduced to the industry. These modern fibers include sendura, varie, lintex,
and crinkle (Parmar & Malik, 2007). Sendura is a unique yarn containing polyester filament used
to produce drapery textiles. It has light and compact, yet it is still resilient as high-quality silk
(Parmar & Malik, 2007). Home textiles can be applied as seating materials, bed textiles, wall
covering fabrics, table textiles, window textiles, and bathroom fabrics. Different types of fabrics
control the temperature in a room; for instance, if experiencing hot weather, one would go for
light fabrics to cool the room, whereas if experiencing cold weather, one would go for heavy
textiles to preserve heat in the room or home. Many textiles like table cloths, table mats, wall
hangings, blankets, pillows, pillow covers, and carpets (Home Textiles & Upholstery, 2022) are
used in the home to make the look attractive and robust. We will discuss four types: pillowcases,
sheets, towels, and floor covering.
Types of Home Textiles
Pillowcases are removable covers used for pillows. They serve various functions such as
protecting pillows from stains and dust, decorating, and comfort when using the pillow.
Changing pillow covers can change a room's look (Kiron, 2021). Since pillows are used in
different rooms of the house, the choice of fiber content may vary depending on the use.

Pillowcases are most likely labeled if they have no iron properties and are easy to care for. It
may be stated that pillowcases are created to the plastic-coated extent of acetate, silk, and linen;
the creations and structures of this vary from the plain to the knitted or satin weave. The best
fiber for sleeping pillows is cotton, silk, or satin to protect hair. Pillowcases are usually labeled,
but one can permanently observe them for better quality. These are acknowledged according to
the types, primarily based on the thread count. This formula can be understood as when the
higher the count, the more uniform and closer the weave; the higher the resistance to attire when
the more compact the weave. The pillowcases are usually produced in sizes to fit the king,
queen, and standard pillows (Henry, 2019).
The second type of home fabric is bed sheets. They are commonly used to line the
mattress, cover oneself, and protect blankets from fast wearing. Bed sheets are made in two types
which are fitted and flat. Both types are made to fit the typical size mattress: queen, king, double
or full, twin, and crib. There are several bed sheets styles, including plain styles, embroidered,
lace, terry wear, Chadwick, velour printed, Chenille, and Jacquard wears (Parmar & Malik,
2007). The manufacturing process of bed sheets involves procuring the fiber, blending, carding,
drawing, testing, roving, spinning, warping a section beam, slashing, warping the beam,
weaving, cleaning, bleaching, dyeing, cutting, sewing, and packaging.
There are several factors considered when selecting the best bed sheets. One of the
factors is the thread count. Thread count can be described as the measure of how many threads
have been woven into a square inch of a particular fabric (Noyed, 2022). Thread count is
achieved by summing the number of warp and weft within a given ar...
