square with side x + 5 =

area will be (x+5)^2, is this what you want??

Perimeter will be 4x+20

What does the "^" mean?

Can you show/explain how you came up with the answer please?

area is length times width, "^" means to the power of

if one side of a square is 5, the perirmeter is 5+5+5+5=20 or 5*4,

since it is x+5, it is 4(x+5)=4x+20=perimeter

the area of a square with a side length of 5 would be 5*5=25

if the length is x+5, you (x+5)(x+5), you have to use foil method

heres a example to the foil method since i cannot draw it

Example: (a+b)(c+d) = ac + ad + bc + bd

Thanks, is that sq ft?

yeah, sq ft for the area, ft for the perimeter.

Ok thanks, I appreciate your help with that one. The second one is

Rectangle with length x-4 and width x+1

my answer is 4 sq ft

Did I get it right? If not, can you please show me the correct way to do the problem?

area=(x-4)(x+1)=x*x+x-4x-4=x^2-3x-4

Thank you very much

I used the FOIL method on the 1st problem. Is the answer

x*25x*25

how did you get x*25x*25, show me all the steps

I used the FOIL method

x(x) * x(5) * 5(x) * 5(5)

x * 25x * 25

(x+5)(x+5)=x*x+5*x+5*x+5*5=x^2+10x+25

Thank you for clearing that up for me.

How does that equate to sq ft?

because (x+5)'s unit if feet, so (x+5)*(x+5)'s unit is feet*feet=feet^2, which is square feet.

Ok, thank you very much
