have cut cost over the years.

Career management is an arrangement of a good thought out planning goes with an active management
of good personal choices associated with an individual’s professional and great career. To be sure for the
outcome that incorporates successful career administration, some factors such as Self-realization, work
balance, objective achievement goals, in addition to money security need proper estimation. You have

List three characteristic of structure changes within organizations and describe
each.i

Customer –driven “horizontal”
This type of organizational body happens to be slightly hierarchical. It also happens to be a more
decentralized form of organizational construct, it is more pliable when compared to other
organizational structures. Managers with this structure have the power to coordinate as well as
control all stable relationships.

Identify ways in which the Psychological Contract has changed within organizations
and list two changes in workforce diversity and its affects on the current workforce.
Psychological contracts are obligations existing amid employees with an
organization that has a composition from a person’s perception regarding some of the
things they expect a firm to provide for them. The psychological contract has
transformed due to its incorporation of pro-active approach that is an attempt to
reduce intentions by employees to leave. Communication failure is a perceived element
that has caused breaches within the contracts at organizational levels. Some of these
organizations have to make certain that they establish open book administration
mechanisms to enable them form a framework that provides effective communication
amid an organization and the workforce. The outcome of these events involves
alterations in company and workers psychological contract.

Employers have ways to reduce diversity in the workplace. If so, give details on how
the organization manages diversity. Explain how your organization manages diversity.

Greenhaus, Callanan and Godshalk (2010) 3

Page 3

To manage diversity requires an ability to work under diverse surroundings
under which one has to minimize friction in the process of capturing the value
associated with dissimilar perspectives in addition to skills. The capacity to interconnect
diversity through meaningful methods is an eccentric requirement from leaders as well
as managers as a phrase of strategy. A diversity scorecard to recognize long-term
objectives with implementation of feedback for assessment happens to a highly
valuable element in the administration of diversity in any given organization.

Explain two primary ways two view a career. One approach sees a career as a structural
property associated with occupation as well as an organization. The other primary approach involves
seeing career as a mobility lane that comes about a single organization in addition to multiple workers.

Career Management can be briefly described as an ongoing
process in which an individual Combines structured plans and incorporates active
administration of preferences in his or her professional career that have to result in
personal satisfaction, work balance, objective attainment, along with guaranteeing
monetary security. There are important elements that require consideration in
comprehending career management that includes motivation from society and people
within one’s surrounding. As an enduring process, career management may require
effective planning and determination that contributes to job satisfaction. The
effectiveness of this goals selected have an impact towards the capacity of personnel
sustaining career development as an ongoing process.

Greenhaus, Callanan and Godshalk (2010) 4

Page 4

Identify the importance of career management from an individual and
organizational viewpoint. Briefly describe each.
From an individual point of view, career management assists individuals in
establishing reasonable objectives that are effective in any career. Each individual has
an opportunity of achieving individual aspirations through considering career
management. The benefits that may originate through career management tend to have
lasting effects that often guarantee a future of working success. From an organizational
perspective, it is arguable that individuals valuing career management tend to be
dependable in terms of performance since they happen to be well aware of their future
needs. Career management to an organization has been a key element in guaranteeing
productivity and better performances from the workforce. Individuals have the privilege
of dealing with organizational outcomes such as layoffs that have been implemented as
an attempt to cut down financial expenses, which increases the rate of unemployment.

What steps have you taken to manage your career and how has it affected your
current choices?
Some of the steps that I have taken in the management of my career include
self-assessment to establish some of the skills I possess in aid of choosing an
appropriate career path. My strength and potentiality have been additional areas that I
focus on to effectively administer my career. An additional area I major my focus is my
individual development that involves filling various loopholes I established during the

personal evaluation step. The development process has been essential in determining
the relationship between my skills and the quality of skills that are required. Selfdevelopment appears to necessitate thorough researching to establish the scope of an
actual career selected and whether that career remains productive from a future point
of view.

CAREER CONTEXTS AND STAGES
TERMINAL OBJECTIVE

careers; the level of acceptable performance will be determined by the facilitator.

➢ Explore Career Perspectives.
➢ Understand Social Influences on Careers.
➢ Define Career Success.
➢ Impact of Developmental Perspectives on Careers.
➢ Explore theories of Life Development

Identify and describe contemporary perspectives on careers and compare
similarities and differences. Discuss the impact of social influences on careers.
Some of the contemporary perspectives linked with careers include an
exploration of opportunities available in the employment field along with development

Greenhaus, Callanan and Godshalk (2010) 6

Page 6

of skills that are important in planning personal career. Contemporary perspectives
incorporated in career include the boundaryless with protean themes. In boundaryless
career, there is representation of work life from a modern perspective within
organizations with less emphasis within internal boundaries. Protean career emerged in
the twenty-first century predating the boundaryless career. This protean career has
management from an individual instead of an organization whereby there is search for
personal fulfillment.

Similarities and differences

Both boundaryless and protean careers have contrast towards a traditional
organizational career. Protean career has characteristics such as being an orientation,
attitude, in addition to move toward a career instead of an actual structure within a
person’s career. In protean career, there are limitations in relationships in the direction
of extensive inter-organizational mobility preferences as well as behavior. Boundaryless
career involves features such as behaviors associated in crossing boundaries produced
through views that individuals may hold regarding the world. Another imperative
similarity is the personal view of careers along with behavior and decisions required in
management of successful careers in the twenty-first century. The way an individual is
brought up has been effective towards a number of life choices being made in
association with career. One’s career choice faces a high level of impact from the social
environment that he or she grew up. The people in authority that any individual comes
across while growing up tend to have immense social impact towards career choices
that are made in future. The impact that social influence may have on an individual’s

career may originate from family, teachers, mentors, and the media. These sources tend
to have varying effects towards an individual affecting the kind of career choices made.

Identify the stages of career development and briefly explain each stage.
The stages in career development comprise of an assessment stage, preparation
stage, commitment stage, and transition stage. The assessment stage involves
preparation for personal life work characterized by unawareness. Most individuals
within this stage tend to be uncertain of their values, strengths, along with their
weaknesses. The main characteristics of this assessment stage involve taking
consideration instruments and coordinating with career counselors. The preparation
stage also integrates a person’s groundwork associated with life’s work. In this stage, an
individual gains knowledge in addition to experience, and sets objectives while adopting

Greenhaus, Callanan and Godshalk (2010) 9

Page 9

success-oriented mindsets. The commitment stage is about feeling confident concerning
establishment of key objectives. Some main characteristics in this stage include carrying
out a job search and negotiating or accepting suitable job offers. A profession in the
transition stage feels discomfort that concerns being unsure of the next intended job.
An individual learns the methods of making conscious alterations. The transition process
involves making career alteration and development of resiliency in a person’s career.

Keeping in mind, “Levinson’s Eras of Development”; which stage of transition are you in
and how does it affect your current development? What changes can you
make to be prepared for the next stage or what can you do to be successful in
your current stage?

Taking into account some of the stages in Levinson’s Eras of Development, I am
in the early adult transition and it has varying effects on my in progress development.
There are several transitions that are taking place as I progress from teenage into
adulthood. It is rather difficult to identify some of the most prolific and dependable
decisions that I have to make regarding my future career. Social and cultural effects
have made it a hectic process with an integration of several requirements as far as
society is concern. In order to triumph in my present stage, I have an obligation to
prioritize some of the most significant elements that will ease my progress through early
adulthood that involves early life structure, age transition, and culminating life
structure.

opportunities, along with support that aid an individual in making the right choices. For
the strategy development step, most influences originate from educational, family,
work, in addition to institutions available within a given society that one resides in.
Strategy implementation comes after a person completes the strategy development
step. This implementation procedure has to lead an individual to determination of one’s
progress in the direction of goals set and the feedback stage to account for the work
