We have a six bed ICU that is 3 to 1 and an IMU that is 4 to 1 and this is built in our NHPPD. The load is often to heavy and nurses become task oriented, stressed and burnt out. Acuity is not always a good measure for example, the patient that is trached with a peg tube is often one of the easier to care for. That is why I feel the nurse intensity score would be a better indicator as it accounts for nursing care/duties that affect a nurse work load.
