The case presents a scenario in which a Californian hospital failed to enlighten their
charge nurses holding the position of nursing supervisor about their roles as charge nurses. In the
event, the charges nurses participated in the union representation elections and influenced other
employees to support the union. The charge nurses did not understand their role as nursing
supervisors and this lead to them gaining interest to join union representation something that was
detrimental to the hospital
