Description

INTRODUCTION

When seeking answers to questions or trying to solve a problem, we often need research to inform and guide us. The internet provides writers with a wealth of sources, but not all sources are equally credible or appropriate for use in a professional context. Having a research strategy will help simplify the research process and anticipate (and overcome) potential challenges, resulting in a collection of valid and reliable sources to provide answers, solutions, or additional support.

In this task, you will perform research to identify information for a scenario. You may use one of the sample scenarios in the attached “Scenarios and Topics List” or choose one of your own. You will build a foundation by selecting your topic, developing and executing a research strategy, and analyzing the sources you find.

A.   Build a foundation for your research by doing the following:

1.   Identify a topic for your proposal.

Note: You can select a topic from the attached “Scenarios and Topics List” supporting document or use a topic from your own personal or professional interests.

2.   Explain your plan for developing and executing a research strategy by answering each of the following questions:

What criteria should be considered when finding credible and relevant sources to support this topic?

Which platforms and databases should be searched?

Which publications and sites are likely to yield appropriate sources for this topic?

Which search terms and phrases are likely to yield appropriate sources for this topic?

3.   List 4–6 credible and relevant sources found during the research process. List the sources by identifying the author, date, title, and source location as available.

a.   Explain why the author, organization, or publication are credible for each of the sources from part A3.

b.   Explain the relevance of each of the sources to your chosen topic.

4.   List two sources found during the research process that are not credible, relevant, or useful by identifying the author, date, title, and source location, as available.

a.   Explain why each source from part A4 is not credible, relevant, or useful for your topic.

B.   Acknowledge sources, using in-text citations and references, for content that is quoted, paraphrased, or summarized.

C.   Demonstrate professional communication in the content and presentation of your submission.

Planning and Conducting Research
1. The Benefits of Social Media in the Business World
2. Credible Sources Criteria
Research papers by students are assignments that utilize facts and academic evidence to
corroborate the arguments put across. Thus, one should rely on academic sources for high
credibility and bias avoidance. For a researcher to obtain high-value sources, there are various
considerations they should take into account. Time is significant in determining a source's
credibility, as information pertaining to business assignments should be current and updated. The
business environment is highly dynamic and volatile and keeps changing, hence the need for
current information. Normally, research papers utilize academic information that is five years old
from the current year. Ahmad & Ayub (2019) also argue that credible sources should be peerreviewed, and the publisher and authors should have a good reputation. Relevance is another
crucial factor whereby the references should be pertinent to the research topic.
The standard Google search is one platform with several business sources that one can
choose from. Google Scholar and Cross Reef are other platforms that are easier to use as they
offer filtered results, and most of the sources are credible, unlike the Google Search Engine,
which does not screen its sources. Databases such as Springer, Research gate, and Science Direct
will also help elucidate the topic.
One should also use key terms and phrases when searching for academic sources...
