When looking for information about a particular issue, how often do you try to resist biases toward your own point of view? This assignment asks you to engage in this aspect of critical thinking.

The assignment is divided into two (2) parts.
For Part I of the assignment (due Week 2), you read a book excerpt about critical thinking processes, reviewed the Procon.org Website in order to gather information, and engaged in prewriting to examine your thoughts.

In Part II of the assignment (due Week 4), you will write a paper to synthesize your ideas.

2. Identify (3) three premises (reasons) from the Procon.org website that support your position and explain why you selected these specific reasons.
3. Explain your answers to the “believing” questions about the three (3) premises opposing your position from the Procon.org website.
4. Examine at least two (2) types of biases that you likely experienced as you evaluated the premises for and against your position.
5. Discuss the effects of your own enculturation or group identification that may have influenced your biases.

Conflicting Viewpoints Essay – Part II
In the first assignment, I selected the topic on social networking sites, whether they are
good or bad for our society. Opinions are conflicting, and often it is advisable to listen or read
the other side of the argument to get the information you did not have, done through the
believing game. In the previous assignment, I played the believing game by answering some
questions, and I experienced some biases. In this paper, I will discuss ways enculturation or
group identification influenced the biases and the effects of the believing game on my thoughts
on the issue.
My position and three premises that support the position
My opinion on the issue is that social media networking is good for our society. From my
view and analysis, social media networking sites have several benefits that have brought to the
society, and it assists people to stay connected despite the distance between them. From the
procorn.org I selected three reasons to support my opinion. The first reason is social networking
sites allow a faster spread of information compared to other devices such as television.
Social media users have been accountable for reporting happenings before traditional
media, for instance, Ebola attack on Nigeria in July 2014, Facebook and Twitter users were fast
to spread the news. I selected this premise since from statistics provided it’s easy to prove that
social media is good for the society. Also because the proposition can easily be disputed since
someone can claim the information spread very fast is false and untrue.
The second reason I selected is that social media facilitates face to face interactions.
