Introduction
In the United States, law enforcement is one of the most dangerous occupations. Being a
police officer is already itself a risk. Police officers have to keep vigil at all times due to the
dangerous nature of the activities they engage in every day. They also have to keep up with the
changing technology especially in the weapons they use. Technology is continuously changing,
and they have to adapt to the changes to effectively perform their duties. They also have to
maintain relationships with other federal agencies since their paths may have to cross when they
work together to combat crime.
Dangers of policing
One of the dangers of faced by police officers is getting shot. When dealing with
criminals, gunfire exchange can take place, and police officers can get shot in the process. They
have to wear bulletproof vests to protect themselves which is another problem since the vests are
heavy and they have to move around with them all the time they are on patrol. Law enforcers
sometimes have to engage in a car chase with criminals, where they chase them at very high
speeds. Not only do they have to worry about their safety while driving at high speeds, but they
have to worry about public safety and the safety of the driver being chased. Some high-speed
chases between a police officer and criminals lead to accidents that destroy public property,
cause injury and even death to the police officers themselves and the public.
They are exposed to dangerous situations such as shootings which may leave them with
stress and trauma due to the events they witness and experience. Some of them are captured and
tortured by criminals to an extent they need therapy and medical attention to overcome the stress
and depression they develop. People are very irregular, and anything can happen at any time and
