Let P = speed of plane in still air
Let W = speed of wind
P + W = distance/time = 3000/6 = 500 mph
P - W = distance/time = 3000/7.5 = 400 mph
P + W + (P - W) = 500 + 400
2P = 900
P = 450 mph
P + W = 500
W = 500 - P
W = 500 - 450
W = 50 mph
