Discussion posts for Nutrition class, English homework help
Please respond to the following in at least 250 words and cite any sources used in MLA format. 1.The text emphasizes the need for nutrition counseling to combat high blood pressure. What are some good techniques to use in counseling when many blacks have a generalized lack of trust in the biomedical community? What are good questions to ask? How should non-compliance be handled in nutrition counseling? Please respond to the following in at least 150 words and cite any sources used in MLA format. 2.According to the reading when blacks have a generalized lack of trust in the biomedical community, something you can do is try to gain their trust and confidence in the way you verbally, and non verbally communicate with them. By making sure you are familiar with some of the ways they communicate can help you to not offend them, which makes them feel more comfortable. Asking open ended questions such as where their family originates from may be helpful to know which foods are popular among that region, and also how that region favors cooking their food. Another question to ask are what are their favorite meals to eat? This can help you to pinpoint directly what foods may be raising the blood pressure of your patient. This was also a follow up to the first question, which can help you see through the food how acculturated the patient is. Also, asking what they do for a living can help you to see if they are in high stress related occupations that can be raising their blood pressure. Non-compliance should be handled by first trying to address what could be causing the non compliance. The book explained that counseling in a group of family may be a better alternative to get cooperation, so if you counseled one on one maybe trying group counseling instead, which could lead to better results. Also if you are trying to make the patient change their entire diet, they may refuse because they do not want to feel socially isolated. Trying to find healthier ways to prepare the same meals, so they do not feel ostracized is the probably the better option. Please respond to the following in at least 150 words and cite any sources used in MLA format. 3.Blacks tend to be underserved in the biomedical community, demonstrating a lack of trust to health care professional. With the combination of the two, African Americans may be endangering their health even more so. Certain techniques can be utilized to increase the amount of trust among physicians and certain minority groups. As stated by Kittler, “Direct eye contact is a sign of attentiveness and trust” (192). By simply making eye contact, an attending physician will be able to gain the trust of his patient, regardless of ethnic barriers. Greeting your patient will also induce a trusting relationship between caretaker and patient, decreasing high blood pressure cases among blacks. When speaking with patients, open ended questions may lead to a desired response, revealing more information about a person’s eating habits. Good questions may be, “what holidays do you celebrate?”, or “what are your current eating habits like?” Both of these questions will allow the patient to review and reflect on his or her eating habits, relaying more information to the health care provider, allowing for effective administration of a treatment. When a patient is not complying, health care providers should remain sincere. The patient may have a culturally affiliated reason for not complying, and this must be taken into account in a sensitive manner. As Kittler states, “compliance is most effective when traditional practices are accepted and encouraged as an integral part of complete care” (131). It is never too late to regain compliance from a patient, as long as you are able to re-introduce their specific cultural values into patient care. By doing this, a better patient-provider relationship will be obtained, leading to better patient care overall.

Miami Dade College Goblin Market Poem by Christina Rossetti Discussion
Read the following: Goblin Market by Christina RossettiChapter 16 of How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster -- click on the link for chapter 16, and read that chapter only. Don't read the name of the chapter before reading the story because it might influence your interpretation before you've even started reading, and that would be boring. It's that dreaded time in English class. Time to read some poetry! For some students, poetry is the most difficult style of literature to analyze because it's the style that tends to least resemble everyday speech. It's a shame that so many students view poetry as "distant" or "boring," though. Once you learn to understand and appreciate poetry, it's like developing a taste for gourmet, smelly French cheese. Your palette has matured, and those Kraft cheese singles just won't do anymore; they taste like plastic to you now. Our first poem, Goblin Market, is a long one; I'd say it's more of a short story written in verse. The key here would be to read it first on the literal level. Just try to understand what's happening in the plot of the story from verse to verse. Once you've worked out what happens in a literal sense, you can begin analyzing (inferential/interpretive level). Consider deeper meanings, symbolism, use of language, etc. Goblin Market was published in 1862, which is the same era as A Doll's House, but the author is English rather than Norwegian. As with all of the literature we've read so far, do NOT look up any information on the poem for your discussion posts. The entire idea is for you to discuss what you think it all means and to exchange ideas with each other, supporting your theories with evidence from only the poem itself. There is no one right answer anyway when it comes to literature. Multiple interpretations are possible.Once you've read the poem and the Foster chapter, respond to the following questions:Provide a basic summary of what happens in the poem (just on a literal level).Do you think that the goblins represent anything in particular in this poem? If so, what ... and why do you think that?List 2 separate lines of the poem that you feel include some sexual imagery and break down the language to help others understand the sexual imagery you're referring to. Try to find lines that none of the other students have used yet. (Once again, this is the inferential/interpretive level.)What are some of the themes of this poem? What do you think it's about deep down? What is the author trying to tell us? (This questions is asking you to look at the bigger picture on an evaluative level.)
