The basis of the fair tax social movement is on the complexity of the current federal tax
system and the loopholes allowing corporations and some wealthy individuals to evade tax
payments (Dodge,2016, p522). The fair tax plan will replace the current taxation system with a
flat national sales tax. The system should be able to eliminate the current complexity of remitting
taxes and ensure all people and business are taxed at the point of sale. Consequently, the federal
government will cease to be involved in the collection and calculation of tax rates of some taxes
like the estate, Medicare, social security, personal income, self-employment, capital gains and
alternative minimum taxes. From the new system each pays tax according to the purchases, and
the businesses remit the dues to the federal government. The paycheck of citizens will be taxfree. Furthermore, it involves a prebate that favors the near poverty and poor citizens. The
prebate allows the provision of a money check that offsets any sales tax expenditures.
The fair tax system will have several advantages. First, the approach favors the highincome earners. The current system deducts taxes according to the earning capacities with the
high-income earners paying more. With the fair tax system, the only amount to be taxed is the
expenditure part. Secondly, it is good for the investors due to lack of capital gains tax. The
system will allow investors to maximize inputs and withdraw funds without any penalties.
