Evaluate the expression: 5 · {(300 - 90 ÷ 5) - [3 · 19 - (8 - 2 · 3)]}

Apr 17th, 2015

Remember the order of operation rules: PEMDAS :  Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Divison, Addition, and Subtraction.

Looking at the parentheses, we have a big parenthesis with two smaller ones inside. We do each one first:

(300 - 90 ÷ 5) = (300 - 18) = 282

[3 · 19 - (8 - 2 · 3)] = [3 · 19 - (8 - 6)] = [3 · 19 - 2] = (57 - 2) = 55

So, 282 - 55 = 227

And finally, (5)(227) = 1135
