Description

Purpose of Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to have students demonstrate mastery of the foundational concepts that set the stage for the remainder of the course. Students apply those concepts to business research questions or problem situations to focus their thinking on statistical literacy for use in business decision-making.

Statistical Analysis

Analysts characterize data using various methods. Statistics can be described as a
mathematical analysis method through which representations, quantifier models, and synopses
for the experimental data or studies are used. It is also a field that studies the various methods of
gathering, reviewing, analyzing, and drawing data conclusions. These measures include variance,
skewness, mean, regression analysis, variance analysis, and kurtosis. Therefore, this term
explains and summarizes the processes used by analysts in characterizing and analyzing any
form of data.
The statistical outcomes of a sample are developed initially for those data sets that relate
to a larger population. Researchers or analysts gather the data of interest and perform an
evaluation. Then, they come up with a summary which is in form of a mathematical form
(Investopedia, 2017). The methods are effective for analyzing large volumes of data. Some of the
fields where statistics have been useful include humanities, business, psychology, social
sciences, and the manufacturing sector among other areas. The descriptive and inferential types
of statistics are the two majorly used methods for this purpose.
Data exists in two categories. The first type is quantitative while the other is qualitative.
Every category has its specific and unique characteristics which differentiate one from the other.
The qualitative data is associated with the qualit...
