Now, if the standard heat of formation of methyl octane is -215.5 kJ/mol, what is the heat of reaction, the heat of reaction, in kJ, for the combustion reaction of methyl octane? The standard heats of formation of CO2,(g) and H2O,(l) are -394 kJ/mol and -286 kJ/mol respectively.

-215.5kJ +14x=9(-394kJ) + 10(-286kJ)

-215kJ +14x=-6406kJ

14x= -6191

x= -884.47kJ
