I need help on percents i really dont know how to use them please help me on this problem below

Last Saturday, a parking lot had 80 cars. Of those cars, 40% were silver, 20 were tan, and the rest were white. What percent of the cars are white? Please someone help me. I have been trying all day at this problem

40% of 80 = (0.4)(80) = 32 silver cars

there are 20 tan, so there must be

80 -(32+20) = 80 - 52 = 28 white cars.

The percentage of white cars is then  (28/80) x 100 = 35%

I need help on this too. you want to see if there is a proportional relationship between your age and your dogs age you make a graph by plotting the pairs of values, using the x-axis for your dogs age is there a proportional relationship? would this result be different if you used the x-axis for your age 

             your dogs age 5  8   9  10

             your age          8 11 12 13

For there to be a proportional relationship then the slope of the line must be constant.

Taking the first two points (5,8) and (8,11)

the slope is 11-8 / 8-5 = 3/3 = 1

Let's look at the next two points: (9,12) and (10,13)

the slope is 13-12 / 10-9 = 1/1 = 1

The slopes are consistent, therefore there IS a proportional relationship.

The result would be the same if you used the x-axis for your age.

Oops, sorry, I want to correct what I said about proportional. All proportion lines must start at the origin.

That changes things. That means the slope calculation starts at the origin too.

So, for (5,8) the slope is 8/5

but, for the (8,11) the slope is 11/8 which is NOT equal to 8/5

So, the relationship is NOT proportional.

If we change the x-axis to represent your age it is STILL NOT proportional for the same reason.
