8^-x+3=1558..... what is the exact form and the decimal approximation rounding 2 decimal places. I don't understand how to get the decimal approximation

8^-x+3=1558

log (base 8) 1558 = 3-x

2.51= 3-x

x= 3-2.51

x= 0.49

8^-x+3=1558 transformed into the logarithmic form is log (base 8) 1558 = 3-x

log (base 8) 1558= 3.54

3.54= 3-x

x= 3-3.54= -0.54

sorry, the answer is -0.54

I'm sorry I am still not coming up with the same answer when I enter it into the calculator. I am entering in log(8) 1558 is that correct or not in the TI 83?

but what I am saying is I can't figure out how to put the log (base 8) 1558 in the calculator. I have and it keeps coming up with 1407.0142 as the answer I am asking you how to put it in the calculator to get the answer you got.
