Public Presentations Observation Reports Resources, Guidelines, Checklist, and Rubric Watch http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/promos/stopbullying/documentary/index.ht ml and then explain some information. Please write in high school level, NOT college or university. My English level is like, “Communication facilitates and compliments human existence in every possible aspect. It is the cornerstone of peaceful coexistence, and it is the pillar of societal cooperation that ensures progress in the current civilizations. That being said, presentation as a component of communication becomes the centerpiece that the proper communication is hinged on. Presentation may be in varied forms, dynamic in every way, and is not limited to speech. This is evident in communication involving the deaf, who use signing, and also the blind, who use Braille in the event the message is in written form. Such was the dynamism in play during the public presentations by Mr. Hayes, Miss Barnes and Mrs. Kellie on the subject of female orgasm.” During the semester, you are to observe and report on four presentations. Please include both deaf, signing and hearing, non-signing presenters. Guidelines 1. The purpose of this observation report activity is for you to: a. be exposed to a variety of speakers in different situations (Critical Thinking SLO 2.1) b. see how different presenters deliver their messages (Language and Communication SLO 1.3) c. Compare and contrast deaf and hearing presenters in terms of the messages they convey and how they deliver those messages (Identity and Culture SLO 3.2, 3.3) d. develop your listening skills (Language and Communication SLO 1.3) e. learn to think more critically about presentation content (Critical Thinking SLO 2.3, 2.4) f. analyze presentation content and delivery (Knowledge and Inquiry SLO 4.1) g. demonstrate your ability to assess presentations as a whole (Knowledge and Inquiry SLO 4.1) h. demonstrate your ability to write presentation critiques (Language and Communication SLO 1.2; Critical Thinking SLO 2.4) 1 2. Each observation report will consist of a form that you are to complete, and a 500-word analysis of content and delivery. The form is on the next page. In your write-up (oneinch margins top, bottom, left, and right; Times New Roman 12 point, double-spaced), you should have four sections: Introduction, Content, Delivery, and Analysis. In the Introduction, provide background: Who is presenting, what type of presentation it is, about what, when, where, etc. In the Content section, explain the presenter’s message(s). In the Delivery section, explain what the presenter did to get across that message. Finally, in the Analysis section, provide your perspective. Here are some questions to consider: How did the presenter do? Was he or she able to capture and hold your interest? Don’t limit yourself to these questions, though; I would like for you to provide your own analysis. A rubric follows the evaluation form. 3. As noted, I would like you to watch presentations by both deaf, signing and hearing, nonsigning people. 2 Presentation Evaluation Form Presenter __________________________________________________ Deaf or Hearing? ____________________ Topic __________________________________________________________________________________________ Date ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Live or Recorded/Archived? __________________________ Rate the speaker on each point: E-excellent G-good A-average INTRODUCTION Gained attention and interest Introduced topic clearly Established credibility Previewed body of presentation Related to audience E E E E E G G G G G A A A A A F F F F F P P P P P BODY Main points clear Main points fully supported Organization well planned Language accurate Language clear, concise Language appropriate Connectives effective E E E E E E E G G G G G G G A A A A A A A F F F F F F F P P P P P P P CONCLUSION Prepared audience for ending Reinforced central idea E G A F P E G A F P DELIVERY Maintained eye contact Used ASL/voice effectively Used physical action effectively Presented visual aids well Used interpreter(s) appropriately E E E E G E G G G G A A A A A F F F P F P F P P N/A P N/A OVERALL EVALUATION Topic challenging Specific purpose well chosen Speech adapted to audience Speech completed within time limit E E E E G G G G A A A A F F P F P F P P N/A 3 F-fair P-poor N/A-Not applicable Public Presentations Spring 2015 Observation Reports Checklist Checklist 1. a completed Presentation Evaluation Form, 2. a 500-word narrative (one-inch margins top, bottom, left, and right; Times New Roman 12 point, double-spaced), with four sections: Introduction, Content, Delivery, and Analysis. “Goes without saying” requirements 1. (DON’t say impaired hearing, dumb, or mute. Which insults deaf people ) Please write in high school level, NOT college, or university. My English level is like, “The reflection paper is about what happened during class. The teachers invited the one person who explained what an internship is, what it is for, and why it is important, how to get it, and how to prepare for an interview. Today, every college student is concerned about his future job because they don't know if it matches his or her interests and also because of the economics. An internship is a beginning work to get a new experience, helps college students see if their major work matches them well in their lives. If not, they can change their major while being at the university instead of losing their interests when they work and waste their life. Day to day, there are a lot of internship opportunities whether paid or unpaid. College students can search for it online like LinkedIn or other websites. Practicing to feel confident in answering any question for an interview is the key.”
