I agree with Adichie that a single story emphasizes how we are different rather than how we are similar, because single story are usually the way to create stereotypes. And in real life there is never just a single story - in real life there are a many stories. And those many stories create a complex picture of one or the other community. A single story tends to stereotypically show one or the other situation, one or the other side of a community, and because it is stereotypical it only shows one side - a different side.
