You are the director of marketing for a regional hospital. The board of directors at your hospital has studied the 2011 Institute of Medicine (IOM) report Early Childhood Obesity Prevention Policies. The alarming statistics quoted in the IOM report stated that “almost 10 percent of infants and toddlers carry excess weight for their length, and slightly more than 20 percent of children between the ages of two and five already are overweight or obese” (IOM, 2011, pg. 1). A survey conducted among the pediatricians who admit patients to the hospital validated that area children under the age of 5 years follow or exceed the national trend of being overweight or obese. The board is very concerned about childhood obesity rates for the children in the hospital’s marketing area. At the last meeting, the board directed the marketing department determine the demand for childhood obesity programs and to review the IOM report and propose a marketing campaign to provide information to parents and guardians concerning ways to prevent children from birth to 5 years of age from becoming overweight. What advertising media would you suggest to be used during the campaign? What products or services could the hospital offer to assist in reducing the number of infants and toddlers who are overweight? My Three Literature The first literature I found is a study that demonstrated the effectiveness of the covid-19 vaccine among covid-positive cases in terms of re-infection in America. According to the article, those who are not vaccinated, but contracted covid-19 previously are 2.34 times at risk of becoming re-infected with covid, compared to those who contracted covid previously and but were vaccinated. The reason why I chose this article and the reason why it validates my problem, is because although the vaccine reduces the risk of hospitalization, death, longer duration of symptoms, and recovery rate, there are people who still contract covid with the vaccine and experience the same effects of those who were not vaccinated. Therefore, I narrowed down my research problem and focused more on the premise that with a sample of only positive cases, the re-infection rate might be higher in unvaccinated cases than vaccinated cases and this article could provide support to that premises (Cavanaugh, et al., 2021). The second literature I found is a study on why men are more prone to contracting covid-19 compared to women. According to the study, they believe that the biological make-up of men is what contributes to them being more susceptible to covid than women. The reason why I selected this article is that contrary to the article, in Galveston County, which is the population that my capstone is focused on, women are more prone to covid than men according to data that was collected and also demonstrated on their dashboard (Griffith et al., 2020; Galveston County Health District, 2021) The third literature I found is a study on the effectiveness of the vaccine based on the viral load and transmission rate among breakthrough cases on whether the cases are symptomatic or asymptomatic. I chose this literature, because, according to research, there is a premise that those who are vaccinated have a higher chance of being asymptomatic than symptomatic. However, based on the data in Galveston County, among the breakthrough cases, there is a higher rate of those who were symptomatic compared to asymptomatic (Levine-Tiefenbrun et al., 2021). Case Study #7: Alzheimer’s Disease Joanna, a 65-year-old woman, and James, a 68-year-old man, are a happily married couple who run a small business. James started noticing that his wife has trouble handling money and paying bills. She keeps forgetting dates. She forgets recently-learned information like the name of their newborn granddaughter. Joanna looks worried and anxious for no good reason. With the advice of their primary care doctor, James took her wife to a neurologist. The doctor conducts tests to assess Joanna’s memory impairment and other thinking skills. After initial assessment of her memory problem, he ordered a few lab tests and brain-imaging test. Results helped rule out other causes, such as hemorrhages, brain tumors or strokes and indicated Joanna might have early stage of Alzheimer’s disease.
