Pre Algebra- Express positive exponents

it says " Simplify. Express using positive exponents."

it says e^-3 divided by e^-2

Apr 22nd, 2015

When you divide exponents with same base, you just subtract the powers , in our case powers are -3 and -2,

so e^-3 / e^-2  = e ^ (-3-(-2)) = e ^-1.

To express using positive exponents we use the formula x^-y = 1/x^y,

so e^-1 = 1/e^1  or  1/e

thank you! do you know absolute value by any chance?

Apr 21st, 2015

You are most welcome!

About absolute value - it depends on the type of the problem............

Apr 21st, 2015

- 1 -12 1

the ones on the outside are supposed to be lines

Apr 21st, 2015

Do you need to find an absolute value of these three numbers? -1, -12 and 1, is that correct?

Apr 21st, 2015

no i was using the ones on the outside to represent the absolute lines

Apr 21st, 2015

Oh ok, So you need an absolute value of -12.

If yes,  the formula for the absolute value would be |x| = x, if x is positive

                                                                                -x, if x is negative

So |-12| =12, because -12 is negative

Apr 21st, 2015

is it still a positive even though there is a negative before the absolute line?

- /-12/

Apr 21st, 2015

oh ok - |-12| = -12

thanks so much for the help!!

can you help with this one?

determine whether each statement is always, sometimes, or never true

/x/ = - /x/

Apr 21st, 2015

This is only true in one case - only when x=0 , so that makes it sometime.

Apr 21st, 2015

lizzie,  for me to get a credit for this answer I think you have to press something like best answer or something like that........ it said prepaid question, but I still was not payed..........................

Hi i am doing a project for school.

I have to find one interior angle of a shape i made. It has 8 sides.

How do i find one interior angle of the shape that has 8 sides?

Apr 23rd, 2015

formula for a single interior angle in a regular polygon (n-2)(180)/n  = (8-2) *180 / 8 = 135 degrees
