I need help understanding my Math problems I don't know how to set them up and figure them out

I can help you with word problems

In the last election, 3/8 of the voters in Afton voted for the incumbent mayor. If 424 people voted in afton last election, how many voted for the incumbent mayor?

3/8 is the part of the all the number of the voters to vote for the incumbent mayor. 424 - is a whole or 100%

So we need to find that 3/8 part form the whole.

424 * 3/8 = 424* 0.375 = 159 people voted for the incumbent mayor.

Let me know if you have any questions

That helps a lot Thanks for setting it up and explaining it like that I appreciate it!

You are welcome!
