A) a baseball weights 5.13 oz. What is the kinetic energy in joules of this baseball when it is thrown by a major league pitcher at 95.o mph?

Apr 22nd, 2015

Convert the mass and the speed to SI units:

m = 5.13 oz = 5.13 oz * 0.0283 kg/oz = 0.145 kg

v = 95.0 mph = 95.0 * 1609 m / 3600 s = 42.46 m/s

The kinetic energy is KE = (1/2)mv^2 = 0.5 * 0.145 * (42.46)^2 = 131 J

"v^2" means "v squared"

"*" means "multiplied by"
