5.I measure the use of nuts, trees and nesting
materials by two species of squirrel and find some strong overlaps in the uses
of nesting materials in particular. Is
it safe to conclude that these two species are competitors? Why or why not?
b.Assuming that the two species of squirrel in the
example above really are competing, what might you predict about the types of
nesting materials selected by each over time?
No. If there is no scarcity with respect to the materials, there is no competition with respect to them. If they really are competing, I would predict that the types of nesting materials for each type of squirrel would diverge as they carve out separate niches.
