Description

INTRODUCTION

Producing an effective message encompasses efficient planning and organization and models influential communication. In this task, you will create an effective message by proposing a policy for an organization or community. You will then create a professional, influential, narrated digital multimedia message of your proposed change. For your proposal and presentation, you may select a topic from the list provided or you may use a policy based on your own personal or professional interests.

This task includes two parts:

  • a written message plan
  • a professional, narrated multimedia presentation that focuses on a policy change for an organization or community (e.g., workplace, environmental, social group or club, neighborhood, school)
  • Note: You must use Panopto for this task. You may use Panopto to create the narrated portion, or you may use another software of your choice and upload the resulting video file to Panopto for evaluation.

    REQUIREMENTS

Your submission must be your original work. No more than a combined total of 30% of the submission and no more than a 10% match to any one individual source can be directly quoted or closely paraphrased from sources, even if cited correctly. The similarity report that is provided when you submit your task can be used as a guide.

You must use the rubric to direct the creation of your submission because it provides detailed criteria that will be used to evaluate your work. Each requirement below may be evaluated by more than one rubric aspect. The rubric aspect titles may contain hyperlinks to relevant portions of the course.

Tasks may not be submitted as cloud links, such as links to Google Docs, Google Slides, OneDrive, etc., unless specified in the task requirements. All other submissions must be file types that are uploaded and submitted as attachments (e.g., .docx, .pdf, .ppt).

    A. Write your presentation plan by doing the following:

    1. Describe the audience (organization, community, etc.) you wish to target with your proposed policy and why it should be of concern to your chosen audience.

    2. Describe the problem to be solved by the proposed policy.

    3. Discuss your proposed policy and how it will affect the chosen audience.

    B. Present your proposed policy from part A by doing the following:

    1. Create a narrated multimedia presentation that meets the following criteria:

  • between 2 and 7 minutes in length
  • appropriate for the selected audience
  • describes the problem to be solved
  • proposes the change
  • integrates the following principles of multimedia design:
  • – effective organization

    – effective opening and closing

    – appropriate choice and placement of relevant visuals

    – effective use of vocalics (i.e., pitch, tone, inflection, volume)

Note: Submit a video recording using Panopto of your narrated multimedia presentation. The video should feature a voiceover of you narrating your multimedia presentation and should not show you speaking, so your webcam should not be enabled. You may use Panopto to record the narration by using screen capture, or you may use another software of your choice and upload the resulting video file to Panopto.

Note: For instructions on how to access and use Panopto, use the "Panopto FAQ" web link, as well as the attached D268 Panopto Instructions document provided in the Supporting Documents.

To submit your recording, select the Panopto folder titled “Introduction to Communication Multimedia proposal – RRM2 Task 3 / D268.” Once the recording has been uploaded and processed in Panopto's system, retrieve the URL of the recording from Panopto and copy and paste it into the Links option. Upload the remaining task requirements using the Attachments option.

    C. Acknowledge sources, using in-text citations and references, for content that is quoted, paraphrased, or summarized. This includes source citation for any visual elements used in the digital presentation.

    D. Demonstrate professional communication in the content and presentation of your submission.

Panopto and Assessments For this course, you can use the Panopto platform to create a video recording of your multimedia presentation, or use an alternative method*. However, all videos−created in Panopto or an alternative method−need to be uploaded to Panopto. *If you choose to create your multimedia presentation with an alternative method, you will still need to upload the recorded video to the Panopto platform and obtain a link to submit the task. For directions on how to do upload the video and obtain the link, read the FAQ: Uploading Videos to Panopto. Panopto Capture There are two versions of Panopto that can be used to create the video: • Panopto Capture – a web-based product (no download required). • Panopto Desktop Recorder– a downloadable version that must be installed on your computer.** It is recommended to use Panopto Capture.
