it safe to conclude that these two species are competitors? Why or why not?
Yes, the two species of squirrel are intraspecific
competitors, meaning that they are same species competing for the same
resources in the ecosystem. This type of competition provides control of
the size of the population.
The squirrels will continue to
use same nesting materials until these materials will become limited.
When the resources become limited, the population of species can no
longer increase in size.
