When my parents and I were traveling, we witnessed a terrible car accident. A small car had changed lanes in front of us and they did not see the large truck in their lane that was slowing down. The front half of the car was crushed under the bottom of the truck. The male driver of the car was trapped between the steering wheel and the seat and was in critical condition. The precipitating factors included the truck driver's reduced speed due to mechanical problems and the car driver's failure to see the truck. We called 911 and tried to help the man trapped in the car. He was passed out and bleeding heavily, but we couldn't reach him because of his mangled car. I was scared and very worried for the car driver. After a few minutes, the EMT were on the scene. They had to use the "jaws of life" and tear apart the car in order to get the driver out. He was then flown in a helicopter to the nearest hospital. When the cops came, they helped to block off the road and questioned my family, another eye witness, and the truck driver. The wrecked car was towed and we were able to continue on to our vacation. We found out later that the man that was in critical condition had to spend months in the hospital to recover, but he did survive.
