MINORS AND ADULT CRIMES

Growing up, children are taught the means and methods of wrong from right. Adolescents
tend to maintain a grasp on their value of life and know that when they commit a crime of
committing an act that is wrong, that they have to endure the consequences that goes along with
their behavior (FindLaw, 2016). However, taking someone’s life isn’t a behavior in which is
treated lighting throughout the criminal justice system. When a child commits an action of violence
towards another, they tend to blame a video game in which they played, or a violent movie in
which they watched. What is being said is that, “the violence portrayed in such videos and games

is wrong and right” (FindLaw, 2016).
However, some believe this statement not to be true. They believe that children or teens

Adolescents who commit themselves to behaviors of murder (any classification) and rape,
should be tried as an adult and not a child who is claiming not to know any better. Children begin
understanding even at their earlier developmental stages that hitting another child, taking their toy,
or even yelling at them in a screaming manner is wrong (Hodgdon, 2008). So how in the world
can an adult hide the fact that children don’t fully understand the underlying concepts behind
murder and rape? If they know such a s...
