The two chapters of the book bring out a wider perspective of the books meaning. The
author sought to end the character lives in the quest to bring out various themes coming out
descriptively in the text. Furthermore, the author manages to describe the independent lifestyle of
the two families—the fall of one and the rise of another. In chapter 21, the author brings a vivid
description of Herman Tenderman, the young, hard-working boy who works his way up to make
a bigger life’s fortune. Herman had already married Wanda, with whom they have their first child.
He wants to name the child Herman Jr., but Wanda detests suggesting that the child be named
Jerome. Besides, the growing family still has Herman accepting Gary and James as his
