Description
As your post points out there are multiple complications that can occur with prolonged and un- treated STI. With respect to gonorrhea and chlamydia, some of the common complications are pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), infertility and chronic pelvic pain. In addition, patient often seek assistance for burning during urination and urinary frequency. (a) What is thought to be a urinary tract infection (UTI), may be a STI. It is not uncommon for males to present with prostatitis. Based on the symptoms and the history, diagnostic test to rule out UTI should also include testing for common STI. I was interested in (b) what type of diagnostic test is ordered and (c) what approach would be used to collect sample for testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia.
