The cases that we will be studying are intentionally concise and to the point, so that they will "spark" class discussion and lively debate. Through your team's brainstorming and mind mapping sessions, you will arrive at consensus decisions - what your team thinks are the best solutions. You should begin by thoroughly reading the case - by yourselves. Then, you should arrange team meetings to “rehash” the facts and propose feasible answers. “Volunteers" should come forward for writing, typing, visuals' preparation, and presentation assignments, under the supervision of the Coordinator. (to be selected by the team) Case analysis develops specific learning of major supervisory concepts, as well as skills in predicting, evaluating, and defending decisions. The main objective is not to reiterate existing material from the cases, but to demonstrate managerial knowledge and to apply it by proposing workable solutions to organizational problems. Procedure For each Case Presentation session (see Class Schedule), the class will hear from a select number of teams. Each team will be assigned a particular case, relating to current text topics. The cases will require a written report and a presentation. (see Syllabus / Guidelines) Students will participate in a designated number of case study deliberations, randomly assigned to teams. This particular assignment requires that students work outside of class. For this reason, the cases were selected with concern for students' academic, employment, vocational, social, and personal obligations. WRITTEN CASE REPORT FORMAT GUIDELINES 1. Coordinators are responsible for writing the case summary. 2. Coordinators should assign each team member a question(s) to answer. 3. In answering the questions, state the answer - first - then follow up with rationale/reasons. Answer formats are as follows: narrative, numerical listing, or bullet points. Begin with the most important points(s)! 4. Rough drafts of answers should be circulated among team members for critiquing and editing purposes. Each answer should occupy no more than 1 page. 5. The Summary and questions with corresponding answers should be typed in 12-point font, double-spaced, each on separate pages. 6. Coordinators should collect individual team members' final submissions and assemble them, in order, in the report. (Different type faces aren't a factor.) 7. If there are more team members than questions, the additional member(s) is responsible for visuals, for the report and the presentation. Otherwise, coordinators should ask for volunteers to create the appropriate visuals. 8. A cover sheet, with the title of the case and the team members' first and last names and signatures, should be included. Also, the cover sheet should indicate the assignment given beside each name. (e.g., Question #1, visual, etc.) Insert case in a report booklet. 9. Either a copy of each visual or a written description in a short paragraph, with the responsible person's name noted, should be attached. 10. REPORTS ARE DUE IN COMPLETED FORMAT AT PRESENTATION!
